new toy

Abby has discovered Play-Doh and she can’t get enough of it. She’s really only interested in taking it out of its containers and putting it back (oh, and trying to sneak it into her mouth), but the other night her daddy helped her roll it. She was so proud to come around the corner and show me what they had made.

  1. Good job Abby and Daddy!

Those rolled balls remind me of the creamcheese cookies with Jack! same technique. So, you can probably guess where I am going with this…

Maybe Abby will lend me her skills in making them the next time I am there…

    Fun times for sure!!!

  2. Hi Erin,
I wanted to share my favorite recipe for homemade play doh I used to make for my boys. It is inexpensive, smells good & no chemicals! It feels really silky & nice too. You can choose what colors & flavors(scents) you want. I got the recipe from my MOPS group and once I made it, I never bought the commercial stuff again. Enjoy!

This is a super fast and easy recipe. With any of the Kool-Aid recipes the dough will be the color of the Kool-Aid mix and will smell like the Kool-Aid mix. If this playdough gets sticky after a period of non-use, I just add flour and knead until it’s back to good condition again. I have found that this playdough doesn’t mold, but if exposed to air for long periods of time, the salt in it forms white crystals that can be seen on the dough.

    • 1 cup flour
    • ½ cup salt
    • 1½ Tbsp cooking oil
    • 1 small package unsweetened Kool-Aid ( 6 g pkg )
    • 1 cup boiling water

Mix flour, salt, oil and Kool-Aid. Add boiling water; stir and knead until cooled and smooth. Store in a plastic bag or airtight container. This lasts well for a couple of months if stored in the fridge in a plastic bag.

  3. I was just going to tell you the same thing, Erin…..homemade play doh is the best and easy!! Over the years, some things just don’t change!! Kiss each other for us, OK? xoxo

  4. Great suggestions, Sheila and Vicki! My sister said the same she did this when she taught pre-school.
but, if it tastes TOO good, Abby will probably go to town..!

    Love you guys!
