I don’t have time to do a "real" post, but I wanted to let you know we are doing well, having all been a little under the weather . . . and God has been so good to us. We are still without internet at home, but as soon as I can, I will share what’s going.
Currently, I am at Starbucks, buckling down on homework that I am behind on, so I will leave you with this picture of me, wet from the Seattle-like weather we are experiencing, and sporting huge bags under my eyes, similar to those that I brought home with my newborn son. Love to you all, and can’t wait to share our story!
We are definitely at the season in our married life where there is little time, and little money, to date like we once did. You know…the expensive, exciting type of dating that put pricey meals in our tummies, jewelry around my neck, and more gourmet coffee than one should be allowed to consume. While now is not the season where we are able to enjoy the "finer" things in life, my husband is still wooing me with coffee, made from his own hands. He won’t even realize until he reads this, how much taking the time to make an Americano or Latte means to me. I’m not sure that steaming milk and scooping foam could officially count as a love language, but it is to me 🙂 .
We’ve had so much going on the last week and a half, and so many pictures have been taken, but I am exhausted. So rather than do a whole bunch of posts, here’s the lowdown…
A tour of Starbucks corporate, thanks to Carrie…
A bachelorette party that ended in a trip to the hospital. Ok, actually I had to leave when the party was just getting started. Just a few too many pre term contractions.
A trip to the market…
The wedding of our dear friends, the Fowlers…
A visit to the Needle…
A knock on the door and surprise visit by my best friend from So. Cal…
A heat wave and a trip to the lake…
Lots of time for Abby to share her Mommy with a baby boy…
A taxi ride through the mall…
A delightful baby shower for me and little Zack, thanks to the Nussbaums…
And a Daddy who can’t wait for more moments playing with a baby girl AND boy.
I forgot to post these pictures of Abby’s first official craft project. Josh found the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for me…a coffee mug painting kit. It included 2 mugs, so Abby and Josh both painted me mugs with love written all over them. Sadly, after reading the fine print on the box, we came to realize that I would not be able to drink from these mugs…they were for decoration only 😦 . But, I have a couple really great pen holders on my desk right now.
Here’s a little taste of the painting "event". Abby did wonderfully, but after about 1.5 minutes, she found it much more interesting to paint her hand. It was a blast to watch, and since I couldn’t preserve her little green digits, I have a wonderful mug to remember it by.
The end products…
Thanks for the funny, Dad.
We took this picture the day Abby was born. From then on, our little one has not stopped loving her milk. However, she will not drink it from her cup (she will not drink it with a pup…sorry;-). I suppose I should begin weaning her from the bottle, but Abby’s bottle of milk is my mug of mocha…that one thing that can make me smile, no matter how yucky my day is going. How can I take that from her right now?
How about you? What are those this comfort measures you let your children hold on to, even when all the books told you to start weaning them off?
This morning, Abby and I got the rare opportunity to visit Josh during his Starbucks shift. We used to do it a lot when Abby was very young (and she was still waking for early morning feedings), when we were a two car family. Since the truck has been sick (dead) we have missed these chances to see Josh, and he has missed the chance to show off his baby at work. So, this morning was a real treat.
Aside from getting to visit Daddy, Abby also spotted the basket full of Starbucks’ Bearista bears, which were dressed for the season in an adorable Jack-O-Lantern costume. Josh and I were going back and forth as to whether or not to get one for Abby, when our friend shared with us that this may be the last Bearista the company would sell. So, that information, coupled with watching Abby snuggle with the "bo", caused us to walk out of the store with a new friend.
When I got home, I had to find out the truth about the Bearistas. My friend at corporate confirmed that Starbucks is pulling these collectibles, which is something I have always looked forward to seeing during the holiday season, for years now. So, get them while there hot. With Starbucks streamlining and trying to get back to their roots, these adorable little bears are getting the ax.
The last couple of days have been pretty mellow around here (which is a wonderful thing), and I have seen that as a time to rest a bit from blogging. I will share a few things that are going on:
With our church re-launching in the next couple weeks, Josh has been busy with many multi-media projects, including a new website. I have actually been able to help a little on that project, and its been a blast.. Also, Josh is going to be sharing with the congregation a little from his heart this weekend while Dean is away. Very exciting!
Abby is really starting to enjoy her new walking skills. Now, when I leave the room to grab something, she usually comes toddling around the corner after me to see what I’m up to.
I am getting a little more involved in my MOPS group, and am now leading a discussion group . . . which I am thrilled about. This also means Abby and I will be involved in some more playdates in the next few months. And now that she can actually play, its a lot more fun.
There is a new drink at Starbucks that I have been meaning to blog about, that is making its way to the top of my list. If you haven’t gotten yourself a Salted Caramel Signature Hot Chocolate, do it today (or when you have 4 bucks). I have also added a couple shots to it, and it CAN pass as an espresso drink. Winter? Bring it on!!!
And the highlight of our week? Our landlord is installing our new hot water heater. This is big news. There are few things more un-welcoming than rust-tinted water, or hopping into a cold shower at 3:30 in the morning (sorry Joshie 😦 ). Just the curse of living in an older home…but what a blessing that its not our responsibility to fix it!!!
Stay classy blogosphere!
Today’s family day will include everything pumpkin:
We finally got the chance to put Abby in an adorable hand-me-down shirt with a precious pumpkin on it.
For now, while Abby is finishing up her morning nap, Josh and I are sipping on our Pumpkin Spice Americanos, and I’m snackin’ on a pumpkin cream cheese muffin.
A little later, we’re heading to the Craven Farms pumpkin patch to pick out a family pumpkin. (In true Pacific Northwest family fashion, we’re bundling up and heading out in the rain and cold).
Our plan is to come home, do a little carving (I’ll be the one holding the knife) and bake a pumpkin pie.
Check in later for pictures…but for now, here’s our 2-month-old "Pumpkin" from last year’s trip.
